Naomi’s Lament & Migration by Amy Alison

[82 words]

Naomi’s Lament

I can no longer bear the marketplace
with its excess, its profusion, crowding me in confusion

widowed, childless, waning like the moon
in a sky impenetrably black, emptiness at my back

I mumble a prayer I scarcely remember,
a stranger to the child I was, groping for the pulse of God

Migration

together they glide
ride currents of air
in a sky blue with cold
the sun glinting gold

we on the ground
are bound to remain
scattered like leaves
on rain-darkened streets
