Artist’s Note:
Entitlement, seduction, invitations, manipulation, exploitation, and still yet a sense of play went into the creation of this piece. A separate coordinating symbolic alphabet allows the viewer, if desired, to discover the true meaning of the painting.
Ali Lazik is a Buffalo-based painter and creator of words. Traditionally trained in oil painting, Lazik ventured into other forms of creation while studying for an MFA in Studio Art, graduating from the University at Buffalo in Spring 2024. In thesis exhibition “Bandaid Pink” (El Museo, Buffalo, NY), Lazik explored poetry, symbolic language, and sculptural elements in conjunction with her bold, frosting-like textures in figurative paintings that seduced and invited the viewer in. Lazik continues to paint primarily animals and enjoy poetry amidst a university teaching career.
