Lost Property by Gracie Jones

On the train,  they find a strand of my brown hair, a 
colour  that  no longer  matches  the one clinging to
my  scalp.   In   the   park,   he  left   my   smile   that
decorated my young eyes, smooth skin. Last week,
Mum noticed  my flesh  sagging less;  now clings to
my bones, sticking out.

I  found  that strand  of hair,  unrecognizable  grin,
extra flesh in his lost property box,  alongside  the
pink dress I wore the night he stole it.


Gracie Jones is a writer, poet, and playwright who has had multiple poems published, including Goodnight, in The Broken Spine’s Brutalist Anthology. Her play, One Day You’ll Understand, was performed at a showcase at the Everyman Theatre in 2024.
