Spring Updates

[379 words]

Hello readers!

It’s Spring here in Los Angeles, and I’m writing to you with a couple updates.

Since we’re closed to new submissions this month, we’ve been reading through our slush pile and are making steady progress. As I mentioned in my last post, the current average response time is 3-4 months. Sometimes it may take a little bit longer because we do our best to give each piece the attention it deserves.

So please don’t query us until 6 months have passed. I understand you’re anxious to know our decision—and we’re anxious to give it to you—but oftentimes we’ll receive a query the same week that the piece is under review. Your query doesn’t affect our decision in any way, but responding to queries does take additional time, which we’d rather dedicate to reading our submissions! Trust us, we’re working through the slush as fast as we’re able.

In related news, since we’ve had many submissions to read through, we’ve also been giving out many acceptances! Our authors have been patiently waiting in the wings to see their pieces published, so we’d like to accelerate the process a little bit. This means that starting next Friday and for the months of April and May, we will be publishing twice a week on Mondays and Fridays at 12pm PT!

We have fiction and non-fiction pieces, lots of poetry, art pieces, and some micros coming your way. We have a couple book reviews, which is something new we’re adding to the lineup. And we’ll have some new podcasts dropping, edited by our podcast intern, Ne’Vaeh Dudley. Next Friday, to kick things off, we’re publishing a book review written by one of our slush readers, Amita Basu.

The Metaworker team has fun working behind the scenes to produce this magazine and we’re excited to share all this awesome stuff with you. We’re consistently impressed with the creative works we receive and we hope you, our readers, enjoy reading and viewing all of it, and maybe you’ll get inspired to create something of your own.

So keep an eye out and get ready to visit our website twice a week! Subscribe to our newsletter to get every new piece sent directly to your inbox.

Thanks for reading and enjoy 🙂
