Grey Autumn by Katie Hughbanks

Black and white photo of a flower pod underwater. The flower pod is not yet fully opened and has stiff white fronds sticking out of a dark grey calyx. Small air bubbles cling to every part of the flower. The background is blurred out white and gray.

Artist’s Note: Humans are inextricably linked to nature, regardless of how separate from the natural world we may often feel. One of the most primal connections, of course, is water. The ancients were right: water is best; water is life. Thus, my art focuses on the impact water has in photographs. I use an Olympus T6 Tough to take my underwater photos. This piece shows the elegance of air bubbles under water.
